I have trained my own dogs and taught classes in obedience for almost
50 years. I am a Canadian Kennel Club licensed judge of Obedience
Trials and conformation shows. I teach both pet and competitive
training.
I teach community center classes from puppy to advanced levels for
the Vancouver School Board CIE, and North Shore Neighbourhood House,
as well as the Vancouver Junior Kennel Club for young people.
I am currently the CKC Obedience Representative for Zone 11 (Southwestern
BC), serving on the Obedience Council. I participated in setting
up the CKC Canine Good Neighbour Test, and support it strongly.
I love to teach dogs of all types and sizes, especially those
that pose a challenge. I am particularly interested in helping
owners to prevent or cure problem behaviour in dogs, especially
unwanted aggression. I enjoy most seeing some of my students go
on to compete and train beyond basic classes.
I believe that most dogs can be taught to be good pets, but require
training and the right owner to fit into today's society. Recently
I have done consultation work for the City of Vancouver Shelter,
a "no kill" facility, and applaud the efforts of its
staff and volunteers in making seized and unclaimed dogs adoptable.
